The Why Behind Men and Women

Hey! Here we go for this week!

So, this week was interesting as always. I find it amazing how much there is about marriage and families that I did not know about. In particular, this week I learned more about how at a young age, boys and girls tend to act differently.

One of the first new pieces of information that I learned was that baby girls tend to mouth words much quicker than baby boys. What does this mean? It means that girls tend to learn how to speak at an earlier stage than boys. I find this to be very significant for me because it helped me start to connect the dots regarding why boys and girls are so different growing up. In my opinion, I would like to believe this is the reason that girls mature quicker than most boys do. They are able to learn at such a young age that as times passes, they gain a greater advantage. Of course, I am not saying that this is always true 100 percent of the time, but it is significant for me. Sorry guys, but we do lack some skills early on when we’re born!

Another funny thing that finally made sense to me was sense of direction. Now if you are me, then you’ve probably had the same experience with the opposite gender. I remember there would be times that my mom would try and give me directions to a specific store. Of course, there’s a ton and instead of telling me where exactly the store was, she gave me directions by using landmarks or other familiar places. Here’s an example of how the call would go:

Mom: “Ok, so when you see Walmart on your left take a right, then once you pass the ice cream shop across the gas station take a left and go straight until you pass Aldi twice. After that, take a right and you made it.”

I would always tell her that I didn’t like the way she gave directions. More so, I feel like my older sister was this way. Although, in class we learned that it is common for women to have a sense of direction like this. While men on the other hand prefer straightforward directions. Me personally? I would prefer she told me that its on 95th and Pulaski. Easy as that. I love that I was finally able to understand that women and men think differently.

Something similar to this, is that women are able to think about several things at once while main tend to focus on one task at a time. I found this one to amazing as I learned that there were studies don’t to understand how men and women’s brains would react. I learned in class that while taking a screening of the brain, if a task were given to a man: such as looking at an object, only one spot would light up…the occipital lobe (which is located at the back of the head). This was very common. Now, when it was the women’s turn something fascinating occurred. While they were focused, not only would the occipital lobe light up, but other parts of the brain would have a small change and react as well. This showed that while men only focus on one thing, women have the capacity to focus on several things at once.

Why was this all significant? I myself find it astonishing to learn that there are reasons that men and women act the way they do. It helps me learn more about why we do things and how it even can be applied into our daily life. Since women are able to focus on several pieces of information at once, it makes sense why they are able to pay attention to small details when taking care of kids. It explains why men prefer directions the way they do.

There is meaning to what we do. Though men and women are different, in the family structure those differences are what helps the family run better. What one lacks the other makes up for it!
